Never Felt Sexy

Ms. A told me before her boudoir shoot that she had never felt sexy. Cute and funny, yes. But sexy, absolutely never. I found this astonishing given that she’s always seemed sexy to me, but the thing I’ve discovered working in boudoir is that the way a person looks has little correlation with how they feel about themselves. It’s often the traditional beauties who struggle the most with seeing the beauty in themselves. It has more to do with our life experiences, how closely we listen to cultural messages, and the people we surround ourselves with. By the end of her shoot, though, Ms. A was starting to see herself through our eyes. “I can’t believe it! I’m sexy!” Ummm, yes, queen. Yes, you are.
