A Guide To Boudoir Lingerie

Boudoir Lingerie

You’ve done it! You’ve summoned forth your inner goddess. You’ve booked a photographer who shares your vision and motivation. All that’s left is that most treacherous of tasks: the shopping! No, no. I know that shopping isn’t generally too treacherous; I’m referring to lingerie shopping, which, when you know it’s going to be preserved in print for life, can be the most intimidating purchase there is! It doesn’t have to be, though. I am going to help you pick out the perfect thing to wear for your boudoir photo shoot- something classic, flattering, and most especially, sexy! Honey, let’s go shopping!

The Teddy

The Teddy

You might be looking at this model’s body, thinking, ‘Well, sure it looks good on her. She’s a model!’ <insert ginormous eye roll here> But the magic of the teddy is that it looks good on everyone! I found these teddys at Forever 21. They are super reasonably priced, come in different sizes and colors, and they have many more options besides these four. If you’ve never owned one then, darlin’, it is just about time that you do! Treat yo’self!

The Bodysuit

The Bodysuit
Very similar to the teddy, but less lacy, the bodysuit also looks amazing on everyone. American Apparel has a great selection, very affordable, and in lots of colors.

The Lacy Robe

The Lacy Robe
Aren’t these GORGEOUS?!! Can you imagine how sexy you will feel wearing one of these bad boys?! I found these at Blue Boutique. They are pricier than the teddys and bodysuits, but I’m pretty sure the hotness to dollar ratio is just about right. Plus, if you live in Utah, you’ll be supporting local by shopping there, which is always a good thing. ;)

The Corset

A lace corset accentuates the waist and enhances the curves.
What is the difference between a corset and a bustier? Why, I’m so glad you asked!! Corsets lace up the back, like those above from Ami Clubwear, whereas bustiers do not. Corsets can both cinch your waist and give your girls a lift. Bustiers only do the latter. For smaller figures, either will probably work just fine, as long as you are able to fill out the bra cup. For voluptuous figures, the corset is your best friend. You are going to look hot, hot, hot!

The Waist Cincher

The Waist Cincher
What you don’t want to wear is a waist cincher, which is like a corset or bustier with no bra cups. See how it pinches the skin in the photo above, creating a muffin top, on this six-foot-tall model? Yeah, they don’t work for anybody.

The Nightgown

The Nightgown
All nightgowns are not created equal! Remember, boudoir is about showing off your curves! Look for actual slips or slip-style nightgowns that hug the body. Bonus points if they have garters attached- very sexy! Found these two at H&M. Babydolls and other flowy gowns, like the one above, are never flattering. Your shape will get lost in all the hanging fabric, even if it’s sheer. See how much sexier the tight-fitting slip looks than the loose gown? ‘Nuff said.

Nothing at All

Of course the hottest (and least expensive!) thing to wear is nothing at all. This is not for everyone and that’s ok! For some folks the whole point of the photo shoot is the lingerie. However, images of a bare back or of a naked body with strategically placed hands can be both powerful and classy… and you don’t have to spend a dime!

STILL FEELING ANXIOUS ABOUT THE WHOLE THING?

I got you, boo. Call me  and we’ll talk. Or we’ll go shopping together until you find the perfect thing. This experience should feel luxurious and empowering from beginning to end. I’m here for you, friend. <3

Also, I’ve got lots more indispensable lingerie information in store for you in my next post. Stay tuned for Part Two!

I am a researcher by nature. I gather information, mull it over, think about all the scenarios and possible outcomes before making a decision. In some way, this gave me a sense of control in my life. I could predict how things would go, and if they fell into another scenario, well, I had already thought about that and could figure it out when that moment came.
