Reconnecting to Your Body

Your body is your home. You deserve to feel comfortable in it. Trauma sometimes forces us to escape our bodies. Your body is amazing. It did what it needed to do to protect you. Everything that has happened in your life, the good, the bad, the traumatic – your body has carried you through it all.

As a tool for healing, boudoir can help to ground us in these wonderful bodies. We can begin to embrace the stories our bodies tell. Our traumas leave our bodies with stories of survival and resilience. Often, when someone is hurt emotionally or mentally, the physical self becomes distant. A boudoir session can aid in restoring the connection with your body and getting back in touch with your physical form.

So many things in this world attempt to strip women of their worth and their right to exist in their bodies, just as they are. Taking ownership of your body is empowering. Trauma can make us feel invisible, wish we were invisible, or, contrarily, make us feel like our bodies are the only thing about us that matters. Boudoir  can be a step on the path to healing that says you are ready to be seen.

It may not be an easy step. Boudoir feels vulnerable. Boudoir IS vulnerable. It takes mental strength to do this, but you are made of strength. This is an amazing way to remind yourself of that. It taps into something in yourself that may have been buried. We conceal ourselves to protect ourselves, but nothing about you needs to be concealed. You are not your trauma. You are so much more. Boudoir can help you get used to celebrating your body

There are so many forms of trauma, and any of them can bring a feeling of detachment from your body. Your body may have been a source of shame or discomfort. Boudoir can offer a way to rewrite that narrative and see yourself in a more positive light. You are giving yourself a positive experience in your body. There is a definite link between trauma and poor body image and self-esteem. Your session can be a step on the journey to rebuilding your self-love.

Trauma lies. It tells you that you are helpless. That you are unworthy. That you are weak. You are NONE of those things. You are tough. You are capable. You are resolute. Doing things that support that narrative changes how you perceive yourself. You are deserving.

A boudoir session may not be therapy, but it is absolutely therapeutic. It can facilitate a liberation and freedom inside of your own skin, where you may previously have been self-conscious. As you peel back layers of your clothing, you can also peel back your worries and insecurities, and begin a journey toward a newfound appreciation for your body.
Sometimes a photo shoot is not just a photo shoot. It is a radical act of self-care. You allow yourself to begin to push through long-held fears and beliefs associated with body acceptance, sexuality, and sexuality. The past may have left you feeling powerless or small. Boudoir photography can be a piece on the path to loving yourself and taking your power back.

Trauma can leave you struggling to look at yourself in the mirror. If trauma left you feeling uncomfortable in your own body, a boudoir shoot can loudly proclaim that it is time for a bold recognition of who you are and that you are inherently valuable. Use your session as a homecoming to yourself.

Welcome home.
