BOUDOIR is a relatively new word in the photography industry. People are more familiar with genres like “glamour” or “beauty”. But what if you just want some sexy photos of yourself? Is boudoir the way to go? Is there a difference?

If we really want to boil it down to a simple answer, then NO, there is no difference. Boudoir pretty much is “sexy pictures”. We could leave it at that, but this is what we do and specialize in so lets dive together a little bit deeper into the realm of sensual photography.
Firstly, we need to talk about the main difference, which is the PURPOSE of your session. Boudoir photography has a very clear objective. This session is meant to be only for yourself and other people that YOU decide will get to see it. This session’s main goal is for you to enjoy your experience and photos. You don’t have to worry about pleasing anybody else or fitting their frames of what is beautiful, sexy, sensual, etc.

When it comes to anything else, like glamour for example or a “sexy session”, the purpose of the session gets blurred a little bit. Even though I bet you still are doing it for yourself, the context and meaning of the photos changes a bit. In these types of photos, they technically also should consider the viewer. It means that the vision of your session would be treated almost commercially – in a way that a broader audience could enjoy too. This difference is very blurry and hard to pinpoint. Do you now see why at the beginning I said that technically there isn’t really any difference between the two?
So, let’s say you want to take some sexy photos, but the word “boudoir” sounds a bit grand and scary. Should you contact a boudoir photographer or look for someone else? In our opinion the most important thing is communication. A boudoir photographer can absolutely take exactly the type of sensual images you are looking for, but we strongly suggest to talk with whomever you decide to book with. Tell them about your vision and why you want to do a photo shoot. This will help them immensely in making sure they create the session of your dreams for you.

What about if you want to take photos as, for example, your wedding gift? Let’s be real for a second here and admit that you are still kind of doing it for yourself 😉 and we are here to tell you that there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! It is an amazing feeling when you can enjoy something and then share that love with another very important person to you.
